Calculus 2010 - 2011

Welcome to the world of Calculus. This year promises to be the hardest yet most rewarding year of mathematics you have ever taken. We will cover the same material as the AP Calculus class only at a much slower pace.

Grades -

Tests 75%

Homework/Notebook/Journal 25%

You will be using the TI-83 once again. Just like last year you will have more tests that no calculator will be allowed then tests with a calculator. Do not become dependent on the calculator.

I have a few procedures that I expect you to follow.

You must have a three ring binder this year. I want three sections in the binder: Notes, homework and journal. I will check homework everyday and I will also collect and grade homework periodically. The objective of having a notebook is so that when you graduate you will have a great reference if you ever take a calculus course in college.

Your book must have a book cover on it. I will do a book check several times a quarter and your book must be covered. The books are in great condition and I want them to look like that when I get them back. Do not lose your book, they cost $100.00.

Tests - I expect that every test will be done in pencil. Come to class with a pencil, I will not loan you a pencil. If you do the test in pen I will take points off. If you do not have your calculator with you I will not loan you one and there will be no sharing. In other words bring your calculator and a pencil to every test.

If you or your parents need to get in touch with me you can either email me at obstr@lcmrschools.com or phone the office at 884-3475 and leave a message.

I am looking forward to a great year. I hope you are all ready to work hard and have a little fun. If you ever feel like you are getting lost please talk to me. Do not fall behind or you will have a tough time catching up.

I will keep a monthly calendar on my web page so that you can see where we are going and what assignments are due on certain days. If you are absent either email me or check the calendar so you do not fall behind. Try hard not to miss the double period days.

The following are links to the notes I provide in class in case you misplace yours. I will only provide you with one set of notes.

We will be using the same basic handouts as the AP Calculus class. If you need an extra copy of your notes, click on Mr. Obst's Homepage and then go to the AP Calculus site and click on the appropriate chapter.
